Por: Katherine Langa
Substance use, or engaging in certain behaviors, alter our biochemistry and produce an effect in our brain. Yes, it´s true- We repeat these experiences in the search for pleasure, of the sensations generated through the consumption of those substances, people or circumstances (those that generate misery and drama, despite the paradoxical).
Forget about the outside for a moment, forget about alcohol, overeating, cigarette, partner, sex, and focus on YOU. What's going on with you today that you want to resort to those behaviors? What is causing you discomfort that you want to avoid with consumption? What situations or environments are you exposing yourself to that trigger the need for compulsive behaviors in search of pleasure? In the answers to these questions is that it's the really important thing, and what you have to work on in order to abandon harmful behavior.
Learn to listen to yourself, to understand what your body tells you. Identify and name your emotions, recognize the impact they have on you, and sit with them. Learn to tolerate the discomfort that some people, situations and emotions generate for you, go through it, on the other side is growth. Doing this is a process; I invite you to arrange an appointment by clicking here, and let's take that path of well-being together.
