International Women's Day | Let us honor the feminine side that lives within us 08-03-2020
Por: Gabriela Ochoa
“Social and cultural ideas and constructions about what is proper to men and women refer to the concept of gender. That is, a set of expectations, attributes, roles, interests and attitudes stereotypically assigned to people based on sex" (e.g. Bosch, Ferrer & Gili, 1999; Barberá & Cala, 2008; Matud, 2008).
Regardless of our gender, we all have a polarity of masculine and feminine energy. In the struggle for equality, let us not forget the internal equality of male and female attributes. By integrating these polarities we feel more complete and relate in a healthier way to ourselves and others.
Male traits include strength, courage, independence, leadership and assertiveness. Feminine qualities include gentleness, empathy, humility and sensitivity.
Today's world of work requires us to be in our masculine energy through which we make quick decisions based on logic, being strategic. The masculine gives structure and direction to our lives, but if we rely solely on this polarity, we can begin to feel stagnant and disconnected, do you know what happens when we open space to connect also with the feminine side? We transform ourselves in an authentic and sustainable way. Society is transformed, companies are transformed, and they are constantly progressing.
We live in a world that demands us to be more and more productive, we are pushed to rely more on our masculine qualities, needing to act quickly and with discernment to realize, but most of the time we invalidate the attributes that our feminine aspect offers us such as receptivity, fluency, care, feel, connect, process emotionally.
How do we connect with our feminine side?
Connecting our senses and emotions; giving affection to our loved ones and co-workers, noticing how our physical and emotional body feels, connecting and listening to our intuition. As we approach our feminine polarity, we allow ourselves to live a fuller, deeper, healthier emotional life. We allow ourselves to feel a wide spectrum of emotions and by feeling and living them we can learn from them and then release them.
The feminine side today…
Self expression is a quality of the feminine; if we invalidate the showing of our feelings for seeming weakness we are exposed to repressing our emotions. These repressed emotions are those that often lead us to burst with aggression.
Women are currently pushed to be male and men restricted from developing their female side; this imbalance of female/male power in our society is a reflection of a collective imbalance at the individual level.
We feel the imbalance with the constant aggression we experience, the mechanics of how we communicate, obsession with time, productivity, the tangible; if we discard the feminine, it leads us to put aside the activities and way of being that lead to the connection.
Let us cultivate the feminine in ourselves to contribute to a family, working environment and a more harmonious society.
On this International Women's Day I invite you to honor the feminine side that lives in you; For a more harmonious and essential transformation world, we need to make room for the feminine side, allowing it to flow and stay active. # Generation Equality
